Don: Santana Sweepstakes

It is 10:36 pm on Monday night, less than an hour and a half away from the deadline the Yankees put on the Twins to accept or reject their trade offer for Johan Santana (the Yankees have reportedly offered Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera, and a mid-level prospect). Let me just say this, the Yankees better get this deal done. They cannot, and I repeat CANNOT let Santana go to the Red Sox.
The Yanks need Santana. I am so excited that Andy Pettitte is returning, but Santana is the best pitcher in the game, and we have all seen how the Yanks have struggled with their starting pitching in the post season tonight. Santana could be the cure.

I told Mike Ratté tonight that I might "go a little crazy" in the sports office tonight if the Sox are able to make this trade. For the record, I have absolutely no problem with trading Phil Hughes for Santana. I think Hughes is going to be great, but what is the chances that he will ever be as great as Santana, and Johan is already pitching at a Hall of Fame caliber level. So Brian Cashman, I ask you to "get this deal done tonight!"
